Module 8: Safety and storage
Voiceover: The following safety precautions should be undertaken when using Caninsulin VetPen:
Before using a VetPen cartridge, check to make sure that the insulin is correctly mixed and uniformly milky in appearance. You must also remove any air by priming. Failure to prime the VetPen could result in inaccurate dosing.
Before each injection, put a new needle onto VetPen. The sterile needles are designed for single use only. Then complete the steps identified in module 5 to ensure the needle is unobstructed. Confirm the VetPen is working properly.
After injection, immediately remove the needle using the needle remover and dispose of it safely.

Encourage your clients to consult you if they are unsure or having difficulty injecting their pet, if they are concerned about their pet, or if their pet seems unwell or does not appear to be responding to treatment.
Voiceover: Before use, insulin cartridges should be refrigerated. And they should always be protected from light. Do not freeze. Once the cartridge is in the VetPen, and depending on your country, you may store at room temperature, no higher than 25°C (77°F).
For further guidelines, check the approved Caninsulin package insert for your region.
VetPen should always be stored or carried with the cap on and no needle attached.
To clean VetPen, wipe it with a damp cloth. Do not immerse it in water.
